Community House 2018

A transitional half-way house for the previously incarcerated to re-integrate back into society.

Thesis investigates how to design a new kind of ‘regenerative’ place to live for persons emerging from prison. The understanding and conjunction of architecture along with programming creates a situation to cultivate the particulars of this groups needs in a social context so that individuals are able to integrate themselves in a transitional setting. The outcome is to achieve a space for individuals to inhabit to transition back into society at their own pace. There continues to be a high demand for halfway houses and programming to aid in the transition of individuals back into society, and not enough design investigation into what might be creatively implemented to aid in this area of human need. Society has the opportunity to further better design for integration back into society of post-incarcerated persons.
