Re-Connectivity 2017

An Interactive Cultural Social Gathering Space

The project develops a contemporary multidisciplinary space that brings people together to share in their own cultural creativity. The redevelopment references and draws inspiration from historical Roman cultural venues and events.

This project builds upon the proposal by Caruso St. John Architects, whose concept was to create a relationship to the dense layout and form of existing Roman urban fabric. Their idea was to create a new urban area situated around the main Science Centre, drawing inspiration from existing Roman piazzas and residential areas. The redevelopment of the site is intended to feel as if it hadn’t suddenly appeared. The new urban planning respects and draws similarities from the past to create an experience that seems typical and familiar within the Roman built environment.

Phase A: Original organic shapes rendered onto buildings
Phase B: Mesh structure formed in the same was as the organic forms
Phase C: Final rendering of vertical garden placed on the facades of buildings. These facades contain walkways underneath and areas open up around residents balconies so as to not block any windows unless specified.
