The Web 2018

The East entrance to the Grange was intended to be the main entrance into the park, but with so much focus on the thither entrances the east entrance has been overpowered and does not appear to be the main entrance anymore. The web structure is built at the triple pathway intersection on the east side once you have entered into the grange. The structure is framed on end of the road on the north side, just inwards slightly of the front boundary of the park. Individuals are able to continue their route to drive and walk their children to the daycare located just on the edge of the park. The structure contains a black reflective granite wall, as a contrasting backdrop to the structure. A walkway is organized for individuals to enter the park opposite and separate to the driveway. Patrons feel drawn to the structure to its massive twenty feet wall and are able to move around it and within the created pathway. The large wall is made of a highly polish black granite material that has a reflective quality to it, that reflects the web structure on one side while completely blocking out the structure on the other side. Designed to become hot in the summer and cold in the winter, with individuals feeling the need to reach out and touch it, like a spider bed that draws in its prey though curiosity and wonder but is hiding a secret. Due to its height, one side of the wall will always remain in shade, providing shelter from the elements to a certain degree, another aspect that will draw people towards this entrance with all other areas in the park lacking shelter, On the north side of the wall, a raised roof is placed above the ground, held together by aluminum framework creating different and unique shapes. The structure is held up by black reflective granite columns on both sides, which frames the path of the individuals. The columns are placed evenly spaced out, and frame the different walkways within the park entrance, encouraging individuals to choose their own path. The aluminium framework holds together prices of canvas, which are held slightly slack. This is able to join in the sound when the wind blows through the trees as the canvas continuously moves with it. As the canvas is semi-permeable material, light is able to penetrate it, and does not create a solid structure or protection from the elements. The columns on the north side follow the outside of a curved path, while the south side columns follow the horizontal direction parallel to the black wall. When looked at from a distance, the columns blend into the back wall giving the effect that the roofing structure is floating and flowing above the ground, as well as it being reflected off the granite wall it doubles the size of the canvas, making the illusion of the floating canvas even larger in scale. When viewing the structure directly towards the south the triangle shaped roof of the building behind it perfectly frames the massive wall allowing for the structure to feel separate from the environment while still tying into it at the same time as well as the CN tower lining up with the center of structure. The web both adds a needed visual as well as audio element to the part that it needed that will both draw people towards it from McCaul as well as the people that may have entered from any other entrance that turns the once lackey used entrance into the centerpiece of it.
